These terms apply to the SpeakKey macOS application (“the app”) and the speakkey.app website. By downloading or using the app, or using this site, you agree to them.
License
SpeakKey is licensed to you, not sold. The app is distributed as a direct download from speakkey.app, signed with a Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the app on Macs you own or control. SpeakKey is free of charge for personal and commercial use.
Third-party services and your API keys
SpeakKey optionally lets you connect cloud AI providers (Anthropic or OpenAI) using your own API key. If you do:
- Your relationship with that provider, including their terms, pricing, and privacy practices, is between you and them.
- Any usage costs billed by a provider are your responsibility. SpeakKey’s built-in cost meter shows estimates only; the provider’s own billing is authoritative.
- You are responsible for keeping your API keys secure and for complying with your provider’s acceptable-use policies.
Acceptable use
Use SpeakKey only where you have the right to input text and to record your own speech. Don’t use it to violate any law or the rights of others.
Accuracy
Speech recognition and AI cleanup are imperfect. Transcripts may contain errors, and cleanup may alter wording. You are responsible for reviewing text before relying on it, especially anywhere accuracy matters, such as legal, medical, or financial contexts.
No warranty
The app and this site are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, SpeakKey and its developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, including lost profits, lost data, or garbled text, arising from your use of the app or site. Because the app is free, our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid for it: zero.
Changes
We may update the app and these terms over time. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
